Washington, D.C. lifestyle brand DURKL, has teamed up with SabreVision to produce a limited edition run of cobranded sunglasses. The brands collaborated on the “Psychotic Reaction” model, redoing the shape in 2 unique colorways (yellow/iridescent lenses and blue/fire lenses) with the lenses receiving a subtle DURKL branding as well.

The shades will be released in small allocations to both brand’s top accounts, as less than 100 pairs were produced. Summer school is now in session.

Want to take a dip? Celebrate with Tiffany and Jade this Saturday

Per Jade: I’ve been promoted. A victim of theft ($3 in change) and a broken passenger windshield. I’m strapped for cash paying for the damn windshield and spent wayyyyy too much in San Fran, but had a great trip. Had no keys to my car (with no window) this a.m. so had to take the bus and metro in for an hour and a half commute. And I need water and wine.

Per Tiffany: I've been laid off. Have a dope cupcake company (with orders abundant) and I'm more happy than ever. I move to Colorado in 2 months for grad school. And I need to dance.

Saturday from 1 p.m. to about 5 p.m. we plan on going to Brightest Young Things Pool Party to celebrate life and the complexities thereof. $10 gets you into the pool and they have full bar and food.

-a special preview of Sonic Youth’s new album and giveaways from Matador/4AD
-local bands playing early 90s covers
-inflatable guitar pool floats and more

All drinks $5 or under (sponsored by Imperial vodka), yummy food “buckets” - calamari, wings, and falafel for $4 and a full menu for lunch, dinner, etc, etc, etc

Friday night at Art Whino view local artist James Walker’s insightful and honest new works reflect on the current moment and the fleeting nature of time. The exhibition will include paintings, photographs, books and collage works that together are a collection of moments, insights and ideas that evolve from Walker’s constant documentation of the world around him.

He describes his work as focused on the ideas of living in the present moment and never taking anything for granted. Walker’s works strike a deeply personal chord leaving viewers both lost in the moment and somehow more aware of the present at the same time.

Saturday We FLAUNT with Honfleur Gallery, Ten Miles Square and Project Beltway

http://www.wpadc.org/images/5_6_09Flaunt.png

The Honfleur Gallery is in full fledged fashion mode as they launched *Flaunt: Photography & Fashion Collaboration*, a special exhibition showcasing emerging local talent in photography and fashion design this Spring. The exhibition opened with a successful launch in April and will continue to highlight the synergy between the two mediums at an upcoming Runway Show on Saturday, June 6, 2009. So venture with me to Southeast DC's newest arts community to Flaunt your stuff.

Tickets: $10.00 contact 202-580-5972 or arts@archdc.org for tickets.

Flaunt, produced in association with Ten Miles Square and Project Beltway, will feature new fashion portrait work by photographers Joshua Yospyn, John Ulaszek, Meaghan Gay, and Steve Goldenberg. The work is the result of collaborations with local fashion designers Dana Greaves, Taimur Baig, Lara Akinsanya and Will Sharp, who will show off their talent as their clothes grace the runway. The upstairs portion of the gallery will be transformed into a pop-up boutique so that guests can take a piece of the runway home.

An artistic experiment of sorts, Flaunt aims to challenge and explore the notions of what constitutes fashion photography.
The opening exhibition and runway show promise an outstanding soundtrack further promoting local artists. The Honfleur Gallery is located at 1241 Good Hope Rd. SE within Historic Anacostia, between the 11th Street Bridge and Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., SE. The event will begin at 8:30 p.m. sharp.

Tickets are available in advance only for the June 6th event and are expected to sell out quickly. (No tickets will be sold at the door.) We will feature a limited number of VIP seats, standing room only tickets and reserved seating for the press. Tickets are available by calling or emailing The Honfleur Gallery. Come support the rising stars and see them in their element on stage and in the fashion light!

Lara Akinsanya counts her upbringing in Nigeria, West Africa, as the main source of fabric inspiration for L~Shandi, her line of bold women’s wear that mixes traditional African fabrics with Western tailoring. L~Shandi is named after the Nigerian street-slang term "lepa shandi," a compliment paid to a woman wearing something that makes her look particularly attractive and sexy. Often cut with a retro flair, L~Shandi designs have been featured in Lucky magazine, Washington Post Express and Washington Life magazine, and are sold locally at U Street boutique Caramel. http://lshandi.com

Artist and designer Dana Ayanna Greaves combines old-world craftsmanship with funky street-style modernity to create unique paper jewelry, fine art paintings and most recently, one-of-a-kind clothing for women. Her work, Artistic AYA, has appeared in DC Magazine, Daily Candy, The Washington Post, and The Today Show. Her work is sold online and at U Street boutique Lettie Gooch. http://artisticaya.com
