"Architectural and Design Photography: The Art of Imaging" Coming to the Washington Design Center Thursday night



"Architectural and Design Photography: The Art of Imaging" at the Washington Design Center in partnership with Dodge Chrome, Inc. The exhibition opens tomorrow September 8 through Oct. 21, 2011 and features over 100 works by very best area architectural, interior design, landscape, and fine-art photographers. The epic Beatles photograph by Mike Mitchell and ones by Kenneth Wyner are amongst the top photographs being exhibited.

Ford’s Theatre FREE Monday Night Programs with Leaders

Beginning in October, Ford’s Theatre presents a month of free Monday night discussions featuring historians, journalists, congressional leaders and young adults.

  • October 3: Chris Matthews moderates a discussion about diversity and leadership titled “E Pluribus Unum: Seeking Unity, Respecting Diversity” featuring a panel of Congressional leaders.
  • October 10: Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist Cynthia Tucker moderates the program “Jews and Race Relations in the South,” featuring playwright Alfred Uhry and historian Eli Evans.
  • October 17: Washington Post columnist Gene Robinson and members of the press explore the media’s influence on the public’s discourse on diversity.
  • October 24, Legacy Project Partner Operation Understanding D.C., a youth organization that brings together Jewish and African-American high school students, hosts an open discussion for their peers.

Washington National Cathedral presents “A Call to Compassion" this Weekend


September 9, 10, and 11, Washington National Cathedral presents “A Call to Compassion,” a three-day series of events to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. These events include a “Concert to Honor” featuring Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, the Marine Corps Chamber Orchestra and United States Navy Band Sea Chanters on Friday, September 9, feature a community day with “A Concert to Heal” with performances by local artists Sweet Honey in the Rock and others, and culminate with “A Concert for Hope” Sunday, September 11, which includes remarks from President Barack Obama, and performances by country star Alan Jackson, R&B legend Patti LaBelle and renowned mezzo soprano Denyce Graves. DC Shorts Coming this September 8-18th

The DC Shorts Film Festival will feature 145 films, from 23 countries. The films run the gamut in genre, style and subject, but are unified by their abbreviated run times - 20 minutes or less.
