Super Bowl Suggestions via DC This Week

http://www.gregslistdc.com/files/superbowl02-072010.jpg
Your best bet for Super Bowl Sunday madness rests at Hudson Restaurant (details above), Public Bar in South Dupont, Tonic in Mt. Pleasant, Jordan's 8 on Capitol Hill, ESPN Zone downtown or your personal flatscreen. I'll be catching the game on an 80-inch projection screen at a friends and loading up on Champagne and Doritos. Yum.

Food & Friends is looking for volunteers to help make the 14th Annual Dining Out for Life a Success!

Are you looking for a fun way to help the DC community that involves food AND friends? Then look no further! The non-profit organization Food & Friends is looking for volunteers to help make the 14th Annual Dining Out for Life as entertaining and rewarding as possible. On Thursday, March 11th, more than 150 restaurants around the DC Metro Area will donate 25 to 100 percent of their profits to support Food & Friends' mission of providing nutritious meals to those facing serious illnesses such as HIV/AIDS and cancer.

To make the day the resounding success it should be, Food & Friends is calling on volunteers to act as "ambassadors" to represent Food & Friends at each restaurant. Ambassadors will visit the diners' tables, thank them for coming out to support such a great cause, sign the diners up for the free sweepstakes and receive any extra contribution the diner may wish to give. Without volunteers, Food & Friends would not be able to continue home-delivering life-sustaining meals to thousands of area residents. Becoming an ambassador is an excellent way to help the community while having a great time. For more information, contact Eliza Yoder, Special Events Assistant, at eyoder@foodandfriends.org or 202.269.6826.

Critters for the Cure, a DC non-profit providing financial aid to women with cancer, will host Critters (and Couture!) For The Cure, a fashion show and champagne gala on the evening of March 11, 2010 at Bloomingdale’s in Chevy Chase.

At the event, female cancer survivors and their critters will strut their stuff on the ‘cat’walk, while attendees enjoy a luxury silent auction, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Doctors from Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and Suburban Hospital will receive honors for their dedication to a CFTC member who recently lost her battle with cancer. Event sponsors include Bloomingdale’s, Polo Ralph Lauren, Puppia, Genentic, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, and M&T Bank. Host committee members include Angie Goff, Anita Brikman, Nikki Burdine, Andrea Roane, Kate Michael, Sue Palka, Eun Yang, Pamela Brown, Krista Johnson, and Lana Orloff. Members of the Honorary Committee include Congresswoman Maxine Waters, United States Senator Barbara Mikulski, United States Senator Robert P. Dutch Ruppersberger, Congressman Gene Green, Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D., Congressman Fred Upton, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter, Congressman Mike McIntyre, and Congressman John Dingell.

Critters for the Cure is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit that provides financial assistance to those fighting womens cancer, and encourages recovery through the love of critters. CFTC differentiates itself by providing the most direct and fastest support of any womens cancer non-profit, including national organizations. Almost 90% of every dollar raised at the Gala will go directly to local women in need – whether is used to shop for groceries, fill a prescription, purchase wigs and prosthetics, or take a dog to the vet.

Till Death Do Us Part: Two local DC artists tie the knot for all to preview @ Long View this Friday

Where do two artists meet and fall in love? At an art show, of course. On Friday, February 5, from 6:30 – 9:30 PM, two of Washington, DC’s most celebrated local artists will tie the knot at Long View Gallery at 1234 9th St NW. RSVP's are request HERE.

During the opening night reception for Dana Ellyn and Matt Sesow’s “Till Death Do Us Part” art exhibition, the long-time couple will exchange nuptials. The couple is inviting all of DC’s artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts to the public event.

Sesow and Ellyn have challenged themselves to address the meaning of marriage through art.Ask Sesow what the marriage means, he jokes, “We get to share paint.”

For the “Til Death Do Us Part” Long View Gallery exhibit, running February 5 to March 1, 2010, Sesow and Ellyn fill the space with a diversity of work, including Sesow’s 100 for $100 small works and Ellyn’s large oil on canvas. How else do you think they are going to pay for the honeymoon? RSVP's are request HERE.
