Did you know that…
- Nearly 4,000 young people in the Washington, D.C. area experience homelessness each year.
- Almost half of runaway and homeless youth have been physically abused, and....
- Nearly one in five have been sexually abused?
Due to the lack of available shelters, most of these youth are not in school, "couch surf", and are at higher risk for drug abuse and criminal involvement. The Latin American Youth Center is addressing these issues through multiple programs for young families and single parents, as well as programs specifically for single and Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender youth. Their services include transitional living experiences, life skills, case management services, and general counseling support.
November is National Homelessness Awareness Month. To raise funds for LAYC’s work with homeless youth, they are sponsoring a DANCE-A-THON FOR THE HOMELESS on November 15at Wilson High School. Please consider donating to keep these vital services going.
Their staff have formed teams and are challenging each other to engage friends and family as sponsors for this event. CLICK HERE to purchase a ticket and dance with them on Saturday morning, November 15 – or sponsor one or more young people or adults to dance.
