DC Charity Spotlight: Food and Friends

DC based furniture and design store Vastu has been a supporter of the Food & Friends a the past few years. Food & Friends is to foster a community caring for men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses by preparing and delivering specialized meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition counseling.

Every year Food & Friends has an amazing event called Chef’s Best Dinner & Auction, in which 60 or so of the region's most prominent chefs gather in the ballroom at the Hilton Washington to share tastings while about 1,500 sponsors, donors and guests enjoy exciting live and silent auctions.

"We fill that what they give to folks in the city is amazing, and the Food & Friends staff is such a pleasant group of people," said Janelle Tracy of Vastu. "They are certainly worthy of a little spotlight." Vastu has continued to support Food and Friends through silent auction donations including the coveted Mies van der Rohe Barcelona chair and a Saarinen Womb chair at recent auctions. "This past June, Vastu two tables, which not only helped raise funds for the organization, but allowed us to invite some of Vastu’s valued customers out for an evening of fun and to learn more about this great organization."

Along with nutrition counseling, Food & Friends prepares, packages and delivers meals and groceries to more than 1,400 people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses throughout Washington, DC, 7 counties of Maryland and 7 counties and 6 independent cities in Virginia. Since 1988, Food & Friends has provided food and companionship to our clients, their loved ones and caregivers.
