Civilian Art Projects is setting up a new "Production Fund" that will give artists the means to create larger products outside of the studio -- as Civilian puts it, "the things that don't make money and aren't for sale."
To help fund the Fund, Civilian is hosting a Spring Fling on Local 16's rooftop deck and have assembled an all-conquering roster of DJs from some of D.C.'s better ongoing events, including Neville C. (Brazilian Rhythms), KC (Fatback), Nitekrawler (Moneytown) and Kalani (Punani Soundsystem). As the music plays, artists Robin Bell, Kate MacDonnell and Luke Wyatt will project art around the venue.
Local 161602 U St. NW
6:30 to 11 p.m.
Cost: $10 donation is good for free hors d'oeuvres, happy hour drink prices all night, and entry into a raffle for pieces made by local artists.
