A whimsical town fashioned from gingerbread,
licorice whips, gumdrops and icing comes to life November 26th in
the seventh annual Gingertown. Hosted by David M. Schwarz
Architects, Gingertown’s
will be erected in four short hours at 1133 Connecticut
Avenue, NW (old Filene's Basement space) near the Farragut North metro station and on view all week until November 30th. Watch construction LIVE on Monday from 6 to 10 p.m. More than 250 pounds of gingerbread, 100 pounds of
icing, and ten pounds of gumdrops are used to create this sweet downtown.
Recipients of this year’s buildings in Washington include
Children’s National Medical Center, Deanwood Rehabilitation & Wellness
Center, Martha’s Table, Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, So Others Might Eat, The
Washington Home, and The Wendt Center for Loss & Healing. In Dallas, recipients include the Children’s
Craniofacial Association; and in Nashville, recipients include Hospital
Hospitality House, Ronald McDonald House, The Cumberland at Green Hills, and Vanderbilt
Children’s Hospital.
