Aside from raising money from direct donations, the DC Collaborative will also have a chance to win awards- such as the $25,000 prize to whichever organization raises the most money, and $1,000 to the organizations that receive the most individual donors each hour! 2011 Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show Hits DC this Weekend

This weekend Food Network stars Paula Deen, Giada De Laurentiis and Guy Fieri will headline the 2011 Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show at the Convention Center.

Tickets are just $24.50 in advance and attendees will enjoy a number of foodie festivities, including:

  • A book signing pavilion featuring national and regional cookbook authors; ongoing demonstrations from knife skills to holiday entertaining;
  • A beer, wine and spirits pavilion that will highlight local mixologists
  • The American National Cattle Women’s cooking stage presenting the winning recipes of the National Beef Cook-off plus the announcement of the 2011 winner.

U Street Portrait Project Opens at Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery this Friday

Join the gallery for an opening night of the U Street Portrait Project with Photography by Tom Wolff. Enjoy a live jazz performance, food & wine, and an early look at 86 new photographs that capture the true character of DC's U Street Corridor.

Known nationally for his published work in the Washington Post Magazine, House & Garden, Garden Design, Smithsonian, and New York Times Magazine, Wolff has been busy photographing along U Street since early September. He looks beyond the facades to capture images of the individuals, local business owners, residents, and artists that make up this culturally and historically rich neighborhood.

The exhibition will run from October 28 to December 17, 2011
