Proof Celebrates National Champagne Day October 28th

Proof commemorates National Champagne Day by offering an exclusive selection of Champagne by the glass for one day only on Friday, October 28, 2011. Wine Director Sebastian Zutant’s special picks include:

  • Jean Moutardier Rosé ($10 a glass)
  • Jacques Selosse Initiale ($30 a glass)
  • Louis Roederer Cristal 2002 ($35 a glass)
  • Salon Le Mesnil 1997 ($60 a glass) - Champagne connoisseurs will recognize this as the 36th vintage of Le Mesnil to be released by Salon in the last 100 years.

National Champagne Day is spearheaded by the Champagne Bureau located here in Washington, D.C.
Wine enthusiasts around the world will celebrate authentic Champagne and raise awareness about the need to protect the Champagne name on Champagne Day. There are many quality sparkling wines produced worldwide, but true Champagne only comes from Champagne, France. Its name can only be used on a label if the grapes and the wine are produced, under strict controls, in the French region of Champagne. But today, over 50 percent of sparkling wines sold in the U.S are improperly labeled “Champagne.”

Raise a glass at Proof in support of the authentic wine.
