Trevor Young's Premium Opening this Friday at Civilian Art Projects

"Premium" is an exhibition of new paintings by Young inspired by the sublime freedom of the open road and the romantic tension of travel. Utilizing familiar and new subject matter - gas stations illuminated by neon lights at night, sleeping travelers in waiting rooms, quiet laundromats, and cerulean landscapes dotted only by the saffron glow of headlights - Young demonstrates a strength of vision and passion for oil painting unprecedented in the D.C. area.

Trevor Young : Premium
April 9 - May 15, 2010
Opening Reception: Friday, April 9, 2010, 7-9pm
Civilian Art Projects
1019 7th Street NW
Washington, DC 20001

In my paintings, the room represents a mental space, and with every blank canvas, I am moving into a new room. I have to choose potent symbolic elements to “decorate” these areas and convey a narrative. I have incomplete visions that can only be clarified through a process of shifting, adding, and taking away. I fumble awkwardly through dusty boxes of thoughts and emotions, mislabeled and stacked haphazardly, grasping stubbornly for the right language to tell my story. Through this process, a painting becomes a pastiche of historical embellishments, psychological metaphors, and emblems of transience. Trevor Young
