What is Beaujolais Nouveau?

In the past 24 hours I've had several friends ask me what exactly is Beaujolais Nouveau and why all of the festivities? The Nouveau red wine is released the third Thursday of November, regardless of the start of the harvest and its best to serve immediately. The grapes are always picked by hand, just like in Champagne, and the only grape that is allowed in its production is the Gamay (Gamay noir Jus Blanc). Often, you will find American wineries attempting to imitate this production process, just as they do with other varietals like Port, Bordeaux, Malbec, Champagne, but the true Beaujolais Nouveau can only come from France. Join me on Thursday at the Embassy of France as they celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau and this fabulous chilled red wine. Tickets are $70 to $95 HERE.
