ontinuing the masterplan of supporting independent underground comedy formulated in the fall by the crazy success of the Bentzen Ball Festival, Brightest Young Things is happy to announce the first original production sponsored by the Festival, two nights of music and comedy at the Arts Club Of Washington, hosted by local musical prodigy Matt Hemerlein and headlined by Ben Kronberg (Jimmy Kimmel, Carson Daly) and MC’d by DC’s brightest comic hope Seaton Smith. TICKETS ARE $15 HERE.

The Arts Club of Washingon, a century old social club housed in James Monroe’s temporary White House in 1812, approached us about working together to broaden the horizons of their arts programming beyond Classical Music and poetry readings. BYT's solution was a two night takeover of the club, beginning with Wednesday the 24th Evening Of Extraordinary Artists showcase of Matt Hemerlein’s indie-folk violin playing and sound looping, accompanied by a classical percussionist and followed by a discussion of his artistic process. The second night will be the Family Hemerlein Variety Show, on Thursday the 25th a unique mix of alternative comedians telling jokes and indie musicians—most notably Philadelphia songstress Birdie Busch—playing their music; updating the traditions of vaudeville and Victorian music halls with the sensibility of Andy Kaufman and Aimee Mann.
