Prohibition Comes to Jackie’s this Thursday in Silver Spring

Jackie’s Restaurant in Silver Spring is hosting an exclusive evening of Prohibition-era fun and entertainment. Meet Garrett Peck, author of The Prohibition Hangover: Alcohol in America from Demon Rum to Cult Cabernet, and Scott Palmer, well known DC mixologist, who will be doing a cocktail demonstration of Prohibition inspired drinks.

Garrett Peck's book looks at how Prohibition (1920-1933) left the United States with outdated attitudes and laws about alcohol. So, how should we treat alcohol? As an everyday consumer product that two-thirds of American adults enjoy? A dangerous substance to be controlled? A gift from God? Or a demonic vice?

The cost is $10 and includes Prohibition-era cocktail samples and plenty of hors d’oeuvres. A cash bar is available for additional drinks, and books will be available for purchase as well, and Garrett will be glad to sign your copy.
