Where shall we dine on Thanksgiving?

In the District on Thanksgiving, but no plans? Here are some options for your thankful day. Thanks to The List Are You On It in my Everday Reads for all of these great picks for turkey day.

Thanksgiving at 2941 Restaurant and Opportunity to Help Homeless Families -- This Thanksgiving, 2941 Restaurant is offering both a three-course Thanksgiving meal and a six-course gastronomic tasting extravaganza, as well as an opportunity to help homeless families through Homestretch, a Falls Church-based non-profit organization.


For $20, dining guests can enjoy a homemade pie with their families for the rest of the holiday weekend, knowing a portion of the proceeds from each sale will benefit Homestretch, a non-profit organization based in Falls Church and dedicated to helping homeless families with children under age 18 return to stable housing and self-sufficiency. Chef Chavez will also bake 75 extra pies, delivering one to each Homestretch family to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day. Priced at $75 per person (not including tax and tip), Chef Bertrand Chemel’s prix-fixe menu offers a variety of choices. Traditional Thanksgiving at 1789 Restaurant -- Newly appointed Executive Chef Daniel Giusti and Pastry Chef Travis Olson of 1789 Restaurant, offer a menu to satisfy both traditional and adventurous palates this Thanksgiving. Available from 12 Noon to 9 p.m., the a la carte menu is sure to provide something for everyone. Also available is a $54 fixed price, three-course, Thanksgiving menu, which includes a choice of soup or salad, turkey with all of the trimmings, and a pie sampler accompanied by coffee or tea. Have a little bit of Art and Soul this Thanksgiving -- Celebrated two-time James Beard-Award winning Chef Art Smith and Executive Chef Ryan Morgan will offer diners a special Thanksgiving experience at Art and Soul on November 27, 2008. The restaurant, located at The Liasion, an Affinia Hotel, will serve a traditional holiday dining experience -- complete with “left-overs” for a take-home dinner to continue the feast the next day. The restaurant will open at 6:30 a.m. with a breakfast menu and will be offered until 1:00 p.m. A special three course Family Style Supper will be offered from 2:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. for $45 per person. Thanksgiving at Bastille -- At Bastille, Chefs Christophe and Michelle Poteaux serve a Thanksgiving Menu with an emphasis on the seasonal and the updated holiday classics. The three course $49 prix fixe Thanksgiving Dinner will be served Thanksgiving Day from 5:00-9:30. A cheese course is an optional addition at $12; or $5 is cheese is requested instead of dessert. Wholesome American fair typifies Blue Duck Tavern’s menu, and Thanksgiving is the perfect time to indulge. The contemporary neighborhood restaurant will be offering an artful blend of freshness and family tradition on Thursday, November 27th. Executive Chef Brian McBride and Chef de Cuisine Michael Santoro will source their turkeys from Eberly Poultry in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Thanksgiving brunch will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a fixed-price, three-course menu including the first course, entrée with sides and dessert. Brunch begins with an array of hors d'oeuvres set throughout the kitchen of the Blue Duck Tavern with seasonal salads, meats and smoked fish.


Guests then select their choice of an entrée and an assortment of side dishes showcasing produce from local farms, creating a new Thanksgiving tradition. House-made desserts from the pastry pantry complete the feast. The brunch fixed-price menu is $85 per person for adults and $45 for children between six and 12. Italians Talk Turkey at Café Milano -- Georgetown’s Cafe Milano is offering special Thanksgiving menus from noon to 9 pm on Nov. 27. Tax and gratuity not included. Diners also may order off the regular menu. For $59, diners are given a delicious Thanksgiving choice between a meat or fish menu. The children’s menu (12 and under) is offered for $25. Have a Local Thanksgiving at CommonWealth -- At this new British-inspired and American-bred gastropub, a special family-style Thanksgiving roast featuring a three-course menu of seasonal dishes is being served. The Thanksgiving feast will be offered from 1 pm-8 pm for $25 per person, excluding gratuity and tax. Dedicated to supporting local farmers, CommonWealth will be serving naturally fed turkeys and grass fed beef. Guests can also choose from the a la carte menu of British-inspired snacks such as lemon stuffed fried olives, scotch eggs, stuffed trout rollmops and frog in a puff ranging in price from $5-$13.


The restaurant’s full pub menu will also be served from 9 pm to 11 pm for late night snacking. Complementing the comfort fare with autumnal flavors, CommonWealth boasts an impressive selection of UK and American beers, and an English pint of Strongbow Dry Cider is an excellent choice for the holiday feast. An American Thanksgiving at Jackson 20 --Jackson 20, a New American tavern in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, will serve up a family style meal of good old comfort food this Thanksgiving. The special menu, the only menu being offered on Thanksgiving Day, will be available from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The meal will be served family style and is priced at $45 per person, exclusive of beverages, taxes and gratuity.
