II Brazilian Film Week in Washington is this Thursday through Sunday

Organized by the Embassy of Brazil, in collaboration with Ms. Ilda Santiago, the artistic director of the renowned Rio International Film Festival (festivaldorio.com.br), the II Brazilian Film Week in Washington will be screening innovative dramas, comedies and art house films at the Greenberg Theater, on Wisconsin Avenue.

Seating is available on a first come, first served basis. Some of the films will be presented to the public by their very own stars and directors, who will be traveling from Brazil to Washington, D.C. for this special event.

Answering a newspaper ad, eighty-three women told their life stories in a studio. Twenty-three were selected to appear in the film. In June 2006, they filmed their stories in Teatro Glauce Rocha, a traditional theater in Rio de Janeiro. In September 2006, actresses performed the stories told by the chosen characters, in their own way.

Documentary about some of the great cinematographers that helped shape Brazilian cinema. Edgar Moura, Dib Lutfi, Fernando Duarte, Mario Carneiro, Pedro Farkas and Walter Carvalho talk about their personal story and work; what they think about directors; filmmaking in Brazil and the industry around the world. They all accepted to shoot the same scene using their personal choices: camera movements, lighting, equipment, in order to reveal their individual style and characteristics.

Danilo is a theatre director, obsessed by the injustice done to farmer Manoel da Motta Coqueiro in the trial case that led to the extinction of death penalty in Brazil. Enticed by a gorgeous and mysterious woman, Danilo rehearses a play about Motta Coqueiro. As the boundaries of reality and fiction overlap, Danilo finds himself in the footsteps of his character, well aware of the outcome of the historical facts.
