Help The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in the Hike for Discovery

Below is a note from one of my best girlfriends, fellow Texan, former Longhorn and great going out buddy who is raising $4,000 for the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I hope you all will support her in her endeavors! DC THIS WEEK would be so grateful if you would consider helping her reach her goal and donate $5 today. She only needs $744 more to reach her goal of $4,000!!!

Dear Family and Friends,

Hope this finds you well! I have decided to take on an effort that will help a truly great cause, improve the life of patients and their families, add more meaning to mine, and last but not least, challenge me physically. I'm reaching out to you to help me reach my goal.

I've joined Hike For Discovery, an endurance hiking and fund raising program that benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I have committed to raising $4,000 to support their efforts to treat and cure blood cancers (Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and Myeloma), and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

This season, my hike hero is an amazing kid named Ashton Shaffer. Ashton was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of Leukemia in 1998 – when he was just two years old. His treatment consisted of 108 weeks of terrible things – chemo, spinal taps, shots, blood tests and cranial radiation. Despite all these hardships, this little fighter never lost his spirit, and it was often his joy in the face of trouble that was getting his whole family through. Today, Ashton is pushing 11 years old and to look at him, you wouldn't know the battle he faced all those years. Every day he and his family count their blessings and continue to be involved in efforts such as this one, so that other children like Ashton will live with hope.

As I train, it is with strong hope that I can make a difference so my loved ones and those of family and friends will not to have to face a battle with no cure. This year, an estimated 110,960 new cases of blood cancers will be diagnosed nationwide, and some 55,100 patients will die. I want to do what I can to change those numbers, and those outcomes.

Please help me reach my fund raising goal by making a 100% tax deductible donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. If you would like me to hike in honor or memory of someone you care about, please send me their name. I'll be proud to carry their names, along with my honored teammate Ashton, with me as I head to Tennessee and into the Great Smokies at the end of the season.

Any contribution large or small will help me reach my goal and advance the search for a cure. Making a donation is simple and quick on my website below. Here you can make a contribution, watch my fund raising progress or stay up to date with my training:

With warm wishes,
Asma
