DC Charity Spotlight: MusicLink Foundation

 store/DC/i10239.jpg

With members of the National Symphony Orchestra on the Board, these folks know talent when they hear it. But talent doesn't always mean opportunity for students who cannot afford private music lessons. MusicLink offers scholarships to budding musicians recommended by their music teachers and private lessons mean the opportunity to excel.

MusicLink supports over 60 students in Virginia and Maryland with volunteer regional coordinators, the donation of instruments, sheet music, practice facilities, and scholarships to summer music camp. A new partnership with the
Atlas Performing Arts Center in Northeast (Catalogue 03) will bring small group lessons in keyboard, percussion, and guitar (jazz, blues, pop) to 50 elementary and middle school students. The Atlas will provide use of its facility, marketing, and publicity for recitals. In the next few years, MusicLink hopes to engage 200 students from 12 additional Northeast DC elementary schools, a middle school, and two junior highs in the Atlas program, and expand to serve Southeast and Southwest DC students. Is the next Wynton Marsalis among them?
