DC Charity Spotlight: DC Scores

Competitive juices will flow between 20 local law firms and businesses as their company teams compete in DC SCORES' 6th Annual DC SCORES Cup: Sharks vs on June 21 -22. Suits Shootout presented by Volkswagen of America, Inc. The weekend-long, co-ed charity soccer tournament matches DC-area teams of law firms (sharks) against businesses (suits) in a round robin 7 v 7 competition.

Presented by Volkswagen of America, Inc., the 2008 DC SCORES Cup: Sharks vs. Suits Tournament will raise $80,000 to benefit DC SCORES, one of Washington's largest after-school programs and the only program that combines soccer, creative writing, and service learning for over 700 DC public elementary and middle school students.

"I've been around soccer in DC for a long time, and have seen the great work that DC SCORES does every day for DC youth," said Ed Ryan, Vice President and General Counsel of Marriott International, Inc. and DC SCORES Cup competitor since the Cup's inception in 2003. "The mission of DC SCORES and its execution of that mission are inspirational."

Competing teams include: Al Jazeera Network, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, Arnold & Porter LLP, BDO Seidman LLP, Bingham McCutchen LLP, Booz Allen Hamilton, Clark Construction, Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garret & Dunner LLP, Friedman Billings Ramsey, Hogan & Hartson LLP, Holland & Knight LLP, John Snow, Inc., Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Marriott International, Nathan Associates, Inc., RAFFA Associates, P.C., Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP, Venable LLP, Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, and reigning 2007 DC SCORES Cup Champion Latham & Watkins LLP.

The tournament, held at Trinity University, kicks off at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21. The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 22. Other event sponsors include D.C. United, DrinkMore Water, Arent Fox, Quaker Snacks, Major League Soccer, and PNC Bank.
