Take the Next Step: Dedicate Yourself to a DC Charity

Frequently I list a DC Charity of the Day in an effort to get all of you to reach out, write a check or volunteer. I hear so often, well I don't have time, I just don't have the money, etc. etc. Believe me people, if I have the time, you have the time. Just two hours on a Sunday after brunch or $50 a month instead of $50 a night on wine makes such a HUGE impact. So I challenge you.....................Donate at least 2 days a month to a charity you really care about or donate $50 each month. Do you accept my challenge? For those of you looking to become much more involved.................

There is one charity that is very close to my heart and I wanted to let you all know that the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative (www.dccollaborative.org) is seeking
additions to their Board of Directors. I have served on their board for the past year and it has been a very rewarding experience. We are particularly in need for one or more individuals with financial background/knowledge to support and inform our efforts to continue developing our financial systems and procedures. But also we are searching for individuals who are truly dedicated to the arts and its continued existence in the classroom.

You might remember that this past year we hosted several Art Buzz events across the city. These events are designed to showcase the works of DC’s top artists and actively raise funds for the Collaborative's Arts for Every Student Program (AFES). AFES provides DC public and charter schools with access to cultural opportunities throughout the District. We offer free tickets and bus transportation to theatrical, musical, visual and dance performances throughout the year. In addition the Collaborative provides art and music teachers with professional development sessions and study materials, adding further incentive to integrate the arts into their daily lessons. In the 2006-2007 school year, more than 31,000 students and teachers visited cultural institutions through AFES.

As board member you can be a part of the Collaborative's overarching goal to promote arts education. I welcome you to learn more and if you are interested in becoming a board member please reach out to me. You can see a full list of our Board members at http://www.dccollaborative.org/boardmembers.html and you can also access the application form should you or a person who you are familiar with be interested. Please feel free to email me should you have any questions.

Prost!
