On Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Georgetown’s annual French Market, a Georgetown Business Improvement District (BID) shopping extravaganza, converts Book Hill of Georgetown (Wisconsin Avenue, N.W., between P Street and Reservoir Road) into an open-air French market.
The boutiques of Book Hill include more than 30 locally-owned salons, art galleries, antique shops, cafes, and specialty clothing stores. The area enhances the Washington, D.C. retail environment with unique merchandise and is a shopping hub for interior designers and antique collectors as well as stylists and fashion-forward shoppers.
In keeping with the tradition of the French Market, Book Hill merchants will feature antiques, fine art, accessories, and clothing on the walkways of upper Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown. Chic boutiques include Sassanova, Sugar, and Urban Chic who will offer weekend-only storewide discounts. Antique and home décor purveyors Carling Nichols, Sixteen Fifty Nine, and Amano feature everything from Asian antique furniture to European table top items from 25- to 50-percent off. Secret Garden, a flower shop based in the Shops at Georgetown Park, hosts a flower market featuring fresh spring blooms and gardening gifts.
This year, Patisserie Poupon, a French bakery and café located on Book Hill, imports products directly from Provence, France, including cotton and coated tablecloths, bread baskets, French tea towels, nougat, honey, and jams. Regional food specials du jour will include grilled merguez, and other Provencal foods. Additional gourmet treats include the famous crepes of Café Bonaparte, a French wine tasting at Bacchus Wine Cellar, tastings at The Bean Counter, and free Illy coffees.
The complete list of merchants includes Proper Topper, Marvelous Market, Living Rooms, The Phoenix, Erwin Gomez Salon & Spa, Café Bonaparte, Hitched, Darrell Dean Antiques, We One You Two, Cherry Antiques, Pink November, Leonida’s Chocolates, Piccolo Piggies, Chevy Chase Bank, America’s Granite DC Living Design Center, Secret Garden Florist, Easel Hair Studio, Tabar, The Dog Shop, Urban Chic, Jaryam Couture Lingerie, Sugar, Bacchus Wine Cellar, Ilo Salon and Spa, District Fine Art, Sassanova, Linen Press, Susan Calloway Fine Arts, Patisserie Poupon, Sherman Pickey, Sixteen Fifty Nine, Rooms With A View, The Magic Wardrobe, The Bean Counter, For Your Home, Carling Nichols, and Amano.
