DC Charity Spotlight: People Animals Love

PAL brings people and animals together - to brighten the lives of the ill or lonely and enrich the lives of at-risk kids. Established in 1981 and now the longest-running and most well-established animal assisted therapy organization in the DC area, PAL is dedicated to sharing the benefits of animal companionship.
PAL summer camp

Its Pet-Visit Therapy program brings 275 volunteers to some 20 facilities: from nursing homes and hospices, to hospitals (including Walter Reed Army Medical Center) and psychiatric facilities. Through direct contact with animals in after-school and summer programs, its Junior Scientists care for a wide variety of small animals, use microscopes and binoculars, and even go bird-watching. Since it was first featured in the Catalogue in 2003, PAL has benefited from a steady source of new donors - critically important when you are organizing thousands of visits each year so that volunteers and their pets can stimulate and comfort the elderly and help the critically ill. PAL offers a simple service that makes a real impact. You can add your simple gift to theirs.
