Preview party: DC Scores Soccer Ball presented by Latin Concepts and DC Magazine

Wednesday night join Tony Hudgins and Mauricio Fraga-Rosenfeld at Play Lounge for a preview of DC Scores 2008 Soccer Ball

DC SCORES bridges the academic and athletic development of youth by providing them with creative writing and soccer activities each day after-school and for five weeks during the summer. Beginning with only five schools in 1994, DC SCORES has quickly expanded to 23 participating elementary and middle schools within the District. Operating in Wards 1, 4, 5, 7 and 8, DC SCORES has worked with more than 3000 8-14 year olds and over 300 coaches and writing instructors in the D. C. Public Schools.

Throughout the year students participate in a number of stimulating activities. The Fall semester culminates with championship soccer games and a Poetry Slam! -a spoken word competition. Students spend the Spring semester collaborating with local, community-based organizations and nonprofits to design community development projects and, in June, celebrate their achievements at the Jamboree! -a day-long event which includes soccer exhibition games, visits from D.C. United players, writing exhibits, carnival activities and an awards ceremony.

Come get the scoop on DC Scores and consider donating to a great DC non-profit.
