Inaugurate a New Era in Dining- Jackson 20 Opens in Old Town Alexandria

Jackson 20 is among the newest entries in Old Town Alexandria’s impressive expanding cadre of great dining and lounge establishments—adjacent to the soon-to-open Hotel Monaco. Chef Jeff Armstrong’s menu emphasizes ingredients sourced from local farmers and local waters, highlighting American dishes with Southern influences.

The menu pays homage to the area’s regional fare. For lunch, dishes rooted in American comfort fare yet updated with creative nuances include a meatloaf club with smoked bacon, vine ripened tomato, iceberg lettuce and homemade ketchup; chilled asparagus with shrimp Louie, butter lettuce and spicy remoulade; grilled cheese, Virginia smoked ham and sharp cheddar cheese with hand cut potato chips; and roast chicken and spinach salad, blackberry and sage vinaigrette and local goat cheese. For dinner, Chef Armstrong’s menu offers Jackson 20’s own brand of regional homespun favorites such as grilled ribeye steak with wilted spinach, smoked bacon and Gouda scalloped potatoes ($28); Vidalia Onion Pie with braised turnips and gruyere cheese ($18); buttermilk fried chicken, brown butter mashed potatoes, braised kale and Dijon honey mustard ($22); and Steamed Carolina Halibut, green tomato chow chow, green beans ($25). Pair them with sides ($5) like wild rice Hoppin’ John made with black eyed peas, and green onions; braised collard greens with smoked bacon and caramelized onions; cheddar cheese fries, with chive crème fraiche; classic mashed potatoes; steamed asparagus complemented by capers and chopped egg; or creamed corn gratin prepared with parmesan cheese. Appetizer prices range from $7 to $14; dinner prices range from $15-$28.

The bar and lounge is a convivial meeting place that features American wines with Virginia vintages, and a “20/20” wine list—20 wines for $20 or less per bottle.
