DC Charity Spotlight: Hope and a Home

logo
We have all read about the need: skyrocketing rents; families at risk of losing their homes (or in shelters with no home to lose); children at risk for low academic performance, teen pregnancy, or gang involvement. Each year its Transitional Housing Program provides 18 struggling families with housing at one-sixth the current rental rate, and prepares them for private market rent through financial literacy training, savings plans, and moving assistance.

Thailand in Photos Part II

“I think the best parts of Thailand are the exhaust from cars, tuk tuks and motorbikes, the heat, constantly being dirty, a rather hideous volunteer house, dogs who chase after you, filthy feet, loud cars, our crazy driver who drives 70 mph everywhere, and the infinite mosquito bites. Did I mention that toilet paper is for the most part non-existent here and u have to take it everywhere with u and can't flush it. And soap seems to be a luxury too. Signed...a recovering germ-a-phob.” ~ Jade Floyd in one of the many emails sent from Thailand.

It's been almost two weeks since my return from Thailand and I haven't had the opportunity to post a blog on the volunteer experience. But you can check out two pieces I wrote for the Art Relief International blog
